STORM LAKE, IA (12/04/2018) (readMedia)-- The Buena Vista University (BVU) Concert Band, under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Jerry Bertrand, will present its annual holiday concert on Sunday, Dec 9 at 3 p.m. in Schaller Memorial Chapel on the BVU campus.
The program will open with "Armida Overture," written in 1783 by Franz Joseph Haydn. The work was transcribed for the modern concert band in 1977. By contrast, the second work, "Gathering of the Ranks at Hebron" by David R. Holsinger, is written in a contemporary idiom which makes use of 20th century composition devices. "Lux Aeterna" by Elliot Del Borgo was written in memory of an extraordinary young high school man from Pennsylvania. "The Seal Lullaby" by Eric Whitacre is based on Rudyard Kipling's novel by "The White Seal."
After intermission, the audience will be treated to music of the Holiday season including: "Joy" by Joseph Curiale, "Polish Christmas Music" by Johan de Meij, and "Holst Winter Suite" arranged by Robert W. Smith.
This holiday concert is free and open to the public to attend.
