BVU TO HOLD SOCIAL INJUSTICE AND RACIAL INEQUALITY PANEL

STORM LAKE, IA (10/12/2017) (readMedia)-- A panel discussion entitled, "Reaching understanding: A civil exchange of perspectives," will take place on Monday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium on the Buena Vista University (BVU) campus.

The panel will focus on issues of social injustice and racial inequality, locally and nationally, highlighted in the protest on BVU's campus. The event - which is being co-sponsored by the Office of the President - is open to the public and will feature panelists from BVU and the Storm Lake community.

Dr. Andrea Frantz, professor of digital media at BVU, is set to moderate the discussion. Attendees are welcome to submit questions anonymously throughout the event.

"When we are faced with challenging topics that are impacting the national climate and are dividing our country and communities, it is important for college campuses to address, discuss and build understanding - just as we have done throughout history," said BVU President Joshua Merchant. "It is imperative for higher education institutions to tease out differences and to solve issues through the sharing of perspectives."

Light refreshments will be provided after the panel discussion, before Brazilian 2wins take the stage at 8 p.m. for Music with a Message – "How Positivity Helped Us Defeat Poverty, Overcome Adversity and Conquer Cancer."
