FROSTBURG, MD (07/27/2010)(readMedia)-- More than 30 science teachers from across Maryland converged on FSU this summer for the Improving Teaching Quality Through Training Opportunities in Physics and Physical Science (ITQ/TOPPS) workshop. TOPPS is a residential program designed to enliven the teaching of physics and physical science at teachers' home schools.
Attending from the Baltimore City area were Criselda Belarmino of Maritime Industries Academy High School, Abu Bakar Bah and Darryl Hartman of Reginald F. Lewis High School, Adren Kornegay of Baltimore Community High School, Roxan Banzon of the Institute of Business and Entrepreneurship, Rey Detosil of Carver Vocational Technical High School, Jonathan Guevarra of Baltimore Talent Development High School, Cecilia Carpo and Jocelyn David of William C. March Middle School, Era Dawn Guiloreza of Friendship Academy of Science and Technology, and Jim Nelson (PTRA Leader).
Middle and high school teachers participate in the program to upgrade their content knowledge, integrate technology into their lessons and develop their teaching strategies and practices. The workshop emphasizes teaching methods and scientific content. The content area this year was waves and optics.
The workshop was funded through the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
