NEW LONDON, CT (05/16/2011)(readMedia)-- Celia Whitehead, a senior at Connecticut College, was awarded the following awards:
• Eva L. Butler Memorial Prize, offered to a senior anthropology student with the highest grade point average in the major offered by the anthropology department in honor of Mrs. Butler's outstanding contributions to anthropology as well as to colonial and Indian history
• Hispanic Studies Excellence Award, given for academic excellence in Hispanic Studies
Whitehead was presented with the awards at the annual Honors and Awards ceremony at Connecticut College on April 27.
Whitehead, a 2006 graduate of Morse High School, is the daughter of Carla and Harris Whitehead of Bath.
At the ceremony, Timo V. Ovaska, Hans and Ella McCollum '21 Vahlteich Professor of Chemistry, gave the keynote address. Dean of the College Community Armando Bengochea and Dean of the Faculty Roger Brooks also congratulated the students.
