Bedias Student Josh Stanfield Receives Athletics Award from Southwestern University

GEORGETOWN, TX (04/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Josh Stanfield of Bedias was named the recipient of the 2011 male Pirate Anchor Award from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

The Pirate Anchor Award is presented annually to a male and female athlete who best display a number of traits that embody the spirit and character of the Southwestern community. Winners are voted on by members of the Southwestern student body, faculty and staff.

Stanfield is majoring in kinesiology at Southwestern and is a four-year letter winner on the Pirate men's swim. He has been named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team twice (2010, 2011) and is a member of the Academic All-American Men's Swim team of 2010. He also is a member of the teams that hold the Southwestern school record in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Stanfield serves as a mentor for Southwestern's Operation Achievement program and has been a residence life staff member for three years. He also is a member of Kappa Alpha Order.

Off-campus, Stanfield coaches swimmers ages 5-17 through the Nitro Swimming Team.
