Bellevue native Lian Caspi selected as Watson Fellow

WALLA WALLA, WA (06/05/2013)(readMedia)-- Lian Caspi of Bellevue, Wash. was honored with several awards after her graduation from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.

Caspi was chosen as a recipient of a Davis Projects for Peace Award. These awards, which were established six years ago by Kathryn Davis, allow students to design grassroots summer projects to break down barriers between cultures. Caspi will be going to Israel this summer for her project, which is titled "Coalition for Peace Through Music."

Caspi was also selected to receive the prestigious Watson Fellowship for her project proposal to explore music therapy across international borders. She will spend the upcoming year researching in the United Kingdom, India, Nepal, South Africa and Colombia.

Additionally, Caspi earned the Shalom Mensch Award for 2013. Each year Hillel-Shalom and Congregation Beth Israel select one graduating senior to receive this award.

Caspi is a graduate of Newport High School. She received a B.A. in Psychology during Whitman's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19.
