Bend native wins Abshire Award

WALLA WALLA, WA (01/23/2013)(readMedia)-- Bend native Rachel Reiter recently received an Abshire Award to fund a research project on Plant Intracellular Leucine-rich Repeat Proteins (PIRLs). She is working with Dan Vernon, a Biology Professor at Whitman College, to use confocal and scanning electron microscopy to investigate the protein's role in pollen development.

Reiter is the daughter of John and Theresa Reiter from Bend, Oregon. She is a 2009 graduate of Summit High School.

At Whitman, Reiter is a senior biology major.
