Berkeley Heights' Dr. Judith M. Sills Receives Annual Alumni Award at University of the Sciences' Reunion

PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/14/2013)(readMedia)-- Judith M. Sills PharmD'83, president of JM Sills Consulting LLC, was presented with Annual Alumni Award at University of the Sciences' Alumni Reunion on Sept. 28, 2013. The Alumni Award is presented to an individual who has contributed in outstanding fashion to the professions, to science, and/or to mankind.

Dr. Sills has spent more than 25 years in the field of drug safety/pharmacovigilance. Beginning as a Safety Evaluator in the Food and Drug Administration Division of Drug and Biological Experience, Dr. Sills joined the pharmaceutical industry in 1986 where she implemented global drug safety surveillance programs for Schering-Plough (now Merck) and Warner Lambert (now Pfizer) Consumer Healthcare. In 2000, she launched a New Jersey office for The Degge Group, a consulting group specializing in clinical drug safety and risk management.

In 2003, Dr. Sills joined Novartis Pharmaceuticals as head of Global Safety Intelligence and assumed positions of increasing responsibility until her retirement in June as Vice President and Global Head, Safety Risk Detection and Management. At Novartis, Dr. Sills led the effort to implement a proactive safety risk management process within the Development organization. She recently started a consulting business to provide strategic support to pharmaceutical companies for pharmacovigilance and safety risk management activities.

For many years, Dr. Sills served as a PharmD clerkship and postgraduate fellowship preceptor. In 2003, she was the recipient of the YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award.

She received her BS in pharmacy in 1980 from Rutgers College of Pharmacy and her PharmD in 1983 from USciences (then Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science). Dr. Sills lives in Berkeley Heights, NJ, with her husband Matt, who is a pharmacologist at Merck. They have two sons and enjoy traveling, music, and theater. She also serves on the governing council for the Grotta Fund for Senior Care.
