Berkshire Country Day School 2019 Latin Awards

LENOX/STOCKBRIDGE, MA (04/30/2019) (readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School, an independent school for students in preschool through ninth grade, is pleased to announce that 13 Upper School (grades 7-9) students were awarded certificates and medals for their high scores on the 2019 National Latin Exam. The NLE exam is sponsored both by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. More than 139,000 students from all 50 states and 20 foreign countries took the test.

For the Latin I National Exam, a Cum Laude award was earned by eighth grader Norah Smith, Sheffield. The following awards were earned by seventh graders: Gold Summa Cum Laude: Zane Sylvester, Spencertown, NY, and Hanna Wellenstein, Pittsfield. Silver Maxima Cum Laude: Leora Cook-Dubin, Pittsfield, and Kate Metcalf, Ghent, NY. Magna Cum Laude: Brenna Loret de Mola, Hudson, NY. Cum Laude: Juliana Mills, Pittsfield, and Penelope Mitchell, Pittsfield and Richmond.

For the Latin II National Exam, the following awards were earned by eighth graders: Gold Summa Cum Laude: Sam Creelan, East Chatham, NY, and Rafi Karpowitz, Hudson, NY. Silver Maxima Cum Laude: Samantha Seeley, Pittsfield and Richmond. Magna Cum Laude: Esme Mamousette, Craryville, NY. Cum Laude: Petra Orloff, Ghent, NY.

BCD students study Latin from Grade 6 through Grade 9 with teacher Eugénie Fawcett of Tyringham, MA.
