Berkshire Country Day School Classics Day Achievement

LENOX, MA (01/31/2013)(readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School's Upper School Latin students (Grades 7-9) joined the Pioneer Valley Classical Association annual Classics Day at Mount Holyoke College on January 18, 2013. BCD's Latin students, in grades seven, eight, and nine, enjoyed participating in workshops and contests with middle and high school students from Amherst, Herberg, Lenox, Pittsfield, Taconic and Williston. The BCD students were accompanied by teachers Eugénie Fawcett, Carmen Dockery Perkins, and James Fawcett. BCD students received the following awards.

ART CONTEST

• Sculpture – Second Place: Sophie Usow (G8, Lenox); and Third Place: Harper Glantz (G9, Pittsfield and Richmond)

• Drawing/Painting – Third Place: Emma Lezberg (G9, Pittsfield) and Rebecca van der Meulen (Gr 9, New Lebanon, NY) for a graphic novel of Hercules' Labors, Latin text by Emma and illustrations by Rebecca)

• Mosaic – Second Place: Sam Kittredge (G9, Dalton)

• Model – First Place: Cameron Sweener (G8, Lenox)

ORAL INTERPRETATION:

• Advanced Drama – Second Place: Emma Lezberg (G9, Pittsfield) and Rebecca van der Meulen (Gr 9, New Lebanon, NY)

• Novice Poetry – First Place: Alex Lederman (G7, Pittsfield); Third Place: Ben Zoeller (G7, New Lebanon, NY)

CERTAMEN:

• Novice/Latin I – First Place: Eighth Graders Alec Goffin (Great Barrington), Jesse Kramer (Pittsfield), Asa Mervis (Great Barrington) and Sam Seckler (Alford)

• Myth – First Place: BCD Red Team of Alex Lederman (G7), Emma Lezberg (G9), and Jackson Rich (G8), all of Pittsfield, and Teddy Michaels (G8, Richmond); Second Place: BCD Gold Team of Jesse Cassuto (G8, Spencertown, NY), Henry Dolan (G8, Chatham, NY), Jacob Lezberg (G9, Pittsfield), and Cameron Sweener (G8, Lenox)
