Berkshire Country Day to Install New Head of School at Ceremony on September 6
STOCKBRIDGE/LENOX, MA (08/30/2019) (readMedia)-- Stephanie Buchanan, President of the Board of Trustees of Berkshire Country Day School, announces that the School will hold a special installation ceremony of its new Head of School on September 6. Jenifer Fox is the fifteenth Head of School in BCD's 74-year history and the first woman to take the helm in more than five decades. Fox's arrival comes at a time when the School is poised to embrace a future that capitalizes on its longstanding reputation in the Berkshires, while stretching into new and exciting areas that integrate learning beyond the school walls, partnering with the greater community.
"My vision is all about how children can revel in the wonder of childhood, while learning skills that solve the real problems in the world. To this end, we will discover ways to bring the greater community into the vision and enrich the student experience with authentic issues to tackle," Fox explained. While Ms. Fox will launch her tenure at the September 6 Installation Ceremony held on the school grounds, 55 Interlaken Road (Route183), Stockbridge, MA, at 6 pm and open to the public by RSVP, the Board affirms that Jenifer hit the ground running in July and immediately began to reach into the community, assess the School's strengths, and design plans for advancement at all levels.
"We already feel energized by Jenifer's leadership," Buchanan explained. "She brings deep experience and creative thinking to the school. One of her main goals is to assure that BCD is as an affordable option while maintaining its reputation of being an exceptional educational option in the Berkshires, and she has already taken steps to fulfill that goal."
Fox sees independent schools as partners with public schools, and her calendar is filling up with meetings to meet with the various area principals and superintendents to share ideas. Fox says, "Educators share a bond in working for the betterment of society. Public schools and other independent schools are not our competition, they are our partners, led by my colleagues. BCD is a small part of an important whole, and I want to know everyone in the region who is working on behalf of young people."
Ms. Fox will be joined by current and former parents, faculty, and members of the wider community as she outlines her vision to the community at the event on September 6. Her talk, entitled "Abundant Possibility," will be accompanied by local musicians Natalia Bernal and Jon Suters, both of whom are music teachers at the School. The ceremony will be followed by a cocktail reception.
