Beth Titman Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2013)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Beth Titman of Boone as an Iowan of the Day for the 2013 Iowa State Fair.

"Beth does not have the word "no" in her vocabulary when it comes to helping others," said Melanie Nystrom, Titman's nominator. "She will always make time - no matter what it takes."

From school and church functions, to fundraisers and putting her artistic abilities to use, Titman will indeed do whatever it takes. She has lead the Relay for Life program by finding sponsors, donations and people to make desserts. She has also volunteered for Project Mississippi- collecting and delivering books to the children of Lexington, Mississippi, one of the poorest counties in the United States.

But her acts of service to the community do not end there. Titman has volunteered at McTeacher's Night, a fundraiser for textbooks at McDonalds. She has also helped "beautify" Boone by volunteering her time and talents to paint the city snow plows before the arrival of every winter. These murals are done merely to spice up the long winter months- and for Boone residents to enjoy.

As a member of the American Cancer Society, she finds even more ways to make a difference.

"Beth is one of the many unsung heroes of cancer survivorship who tirelessly support those facing the disease," said Joanne Hansson, a friend of Titman. Beth provides countless hours of volunteerism for events, generous donations and kind words of understanding for friends and loved ones with the disease."

Titman's day of recognition will be Wednesday, August 14 at the 2013 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Titman will also receive a special introduction on August 14 at 2:30 p.m. on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowan's across the state who have made a difference in others' lives, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $95 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
