WATERVILLE, ME (11/18/2009)(readMedia)-- Robert R. Hoopes Jr., of Bethesda, Md., is among five new trustees of Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Hoopes, president of VOX Global Mandate, a bipartisan public affairs firm located in Washington, D.C., is a 1989 graduate of Colby. He also holds a master's degree in legislative affairs from The George Washington University.

Colby's Board of Trustees is the principal governing body of the college, with responsibility for policy oversight of Colby's academic and administrative programs. It is currently composed of 37 men and women from around the United States and two foreign countries and includes alumni, parents of current and former Colby students, and other friends of the college. Hoopes chairs the board's communications committee and serves on its admissions and financial aid, development, and educational policy committees.

Other new trustees include:

Betsy Lake Morgan '90, a senior media executive who was most recently CEO of The Huffington Post.

Edward A. Snyder '75, dean and George Pratt Shultz Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Harry Krensky '85, a principal and founding partner of Atlas Capital Management and Atlas Private Equity, in White Plains, NY.

Dilan V.K. Siritunga '92, managing director of Atticus Capital, a leading private investment management firm.

"These individuals bring to the board a wealth of experience in business, public affairs, and the media -- and an understanding of higher education," said Robert E. Diamond Jr. '73, chair of the Board of Trustees and president of Barclays Bank PLC. "As Colby is increasingly well-known for its international programs and outreach, for its students' interest in public affairs and civic engagement, and for placing students in top graduate schools and businesses, these trustees provide practical knowledge to the board and the administration and are role models for Colby students seeking opportunities to make their mark professionally."

Robert Hoopes is a nationally recognized expert on public policy, issue advocacy, and crisis management. He is a veteran of three Senate offices and has worked on local, state, and national political campaigns. Hoopes worked on Vice President Joseph Biden's first run for President in 1987 and in his Senate office in 1989. He also worked on the 2008 Presidential campaign and was a member of the Obama/Biden Transition Team. He became president of VOX Global in 2006 and oversees a national team of public affairs professionals.

Hoopes began his three-year term on Colby's board this fall.
