Binghamton University Student receives Graduate Excellence in Teaching Award
BINGHAMTON, NY (05/18/2012)(readMedia)-- Each year, Binghamton University honors the special achievements of those graduate students who serve as teaching assistants and instructors. Nominations are invited from all graduate programs and recipients represent a variety of teaching approaches in diverse subjects.
Marissa Schwalm of Manlius, NY, who is pursuing studies in English, general literature and rhetoric has received a Graduate Student Excellence in Teaching award from Binghamton University, State University of New York.
Schwalm was recognized for being an exceptionally fine mentor who takes the initiative to help students in many ways. Her students value her high standards and dedication in encouraging them in both literary analysis and creative writing, and she works closely with them to help them succeed. Schwalm sums up her teaching style as staying current, utilizing technology and acting as a mentor. She focuses primarily on creating a flexible, student-centered writing classroom that addresses and adapts to students' varying skill levels, abilities and learning styles.
