Bowie Native Receives Full Scholarship to Spend One Week in South Korea

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (04/09/2012)(readMedia)-- David Austin, native of Bowie, Maryland, recently participated in the third annual South Korea Scholarship Program presented by the Council on International Educational Exchange, a world-leader in international education and student exchange. David, a senior and sociology major, was one of 75 university students accepted to the program, which took place March 9 – March 18, 2012. Students were hosted by Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where students attended academic lectures, tours, and cultural excursions.

The South Korea Scholarship Program is meant to promote awareness and understanding of Korea and to enhance goodwill and friendship between international communities. The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization with the goal of helping individuals gain skills and knowledge necessary for living in a culturally diverse world.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
