SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Brandon Case of Plantsville, CT, was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Case was one of 15 outstanding senior students to receive the award during the University's Homecoming Weekend.
Majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics, Case is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society and serves as president of the Mortar Board honor society. In addition, he is president of the Chemistry Club, chairman of the Honors Program Student Executive Committee, and an Open House Associate for the Honors Program. Case is also extremely dedicated to the Chemistry department where he is a Supplemental Instructor for Organic Chemistry, a Lab Assistant for Organic Chemistry, and a tutor for students. Currently, Case is working with Assistant Professor of Chemistry Sean McClintock researching fluorescent detection of pesticides, which could eventually be marketed to the public as a method for testing food before consumption.
