HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (03/26/2013)(readMedia)-- On Friday, March 8, 2013, Brandon A. Long, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, was elected Chairman of the Student Court for the 2013-2014 academic year.
A Madison Scholar, Brandon has been a member of the Student Court since his freshman year and is a member of the President's Men. He played halfback on the varsity football team for two years. An economics and commerce major, Brandon is a graduate of J. R. Tucker High School and is the son of Anthony & Kelly Long of Glen Allen.
The judicial power of Student Government is vested in the Student Court, a body comprised of members elected by their fellow students. The court tries cases arising from breaches of the Honor Code and the Code of Student Conduct. Student government, first introduced at the College in 1886, is an historic and respected institution.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
