COLCHESTER, VT (12/14/2010)(readMedia)-- Brian Hamill, son of Robert and Majorie Hamill of Emmaus, Penna., made a poster presentation that showcasing the complex "number crunching" used in his Saint Michael's College course on Corporate Strategic Valuation. Mr. Hamill, a junior business administration major, titled his presentation "Firm Valuation using a Discounted Cash Flow Model." He graduated from Emmaus High School before coming to Saint Michael's, a Catholic liberal arts college, located in Burlington, Vermont, and ranked in the U.S. News top 100 liberal arts colleges in the nation.

The course, designed to help students understand and carry out economic analyses of strategic investments, is taught by Saint Michael's Associate Professor of Business Administration and Accounting, Dr. Diane Lander whose many publications include a recent article, "Strategic Implications of Valuation: Evidence from Valuing Growth Options" in the journal, Advances in Strategic Management.

Dr. Lander's course focuses on the use of corporate finance tools to make management decisions-an area of great importance to corporate employers today-and advanced budgeting techniques are taught so that students learn what issues corporate managers face when making investment and financing decisions. The students were challenged to present their work in a poster format that non-experts could understand and learn from.
