LIVERPOOL, NY (05/22/2007)(readMedia)-- Brookfield Power invites the public to enjoy the 2007 summer season at its more than 50 multi-use public access facilities on 16 river systems where its hydroelectric generating plants are located across New York State. Concurrently, Brookfield Power urges users to follow common sense safety precautions when participating in the many outdoor activities available near its hydro plants.
Through Erie Boulevard Hydropower, L.P., Brookfield Power owns and operates 74 hydroelectric generating facilities in New York. Many of Brookfield Power’s hydropower plants are in the popular Adirondack Mountain region. Camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking and boating are available at designated locations on or near many of the rivers where the plants are located.
However, the public is asked to be cognizant to stay clear of various areas including dams, intakes, gates, spillways, powerhouse discharges and other areas designated as not available for public use.
Hikers, campers, boaters and others also are encouraged to heed safety measures, such as properly extinguishing campfires and swimming in designated areas only when lifeguards are present.
