Buffalonians Urge Hochul to Stop National Fuel Making Energy Unaffordable, Put NY HEAT Act in Budget

With Trump admin looming, Gov. Hochul's leadership to lower energy costs and fight greedy fracked gas companies raising prices is more important than ever; Advocates will urge the Governor and Assembly to pass the NY HEAT Act, make energy costs more affordable for everyday families and fight climate change

BUFFALO, NY (12/11/2024) (readMedia)-- Today, Buffalo residents and advocates will rally against National Fuel's proposed rate hike and demand lawmakers pass the NY HEAT Act this session. As winter heating season begins, National Fuel is looking to win approval from utility regulators appointed by the Governor for a rate hike that would force Western New York families to pay nearly 30% more for gas delivery services - all while the company continues to lobby against legislation that would save ratepayers money.

Statewide, greedy utilities are trying to charge everyday New Yorkers 18% more. 1 in 4 New Yorkers already can't afford energy prices and a clear majority are desperate for policies to make life more affordable for them. The NY HEAT Act, which would help control future gas rate hikes, save the Buffalo families who need it most $136/month on average, and move New York to a 21st-century energy system is popular across party lines.

The bill has broad support across the legislature and almost passed last year before dying in the Assembly in the last days of the legislative session. Now, Buffalo residents are asking: Our bills are going up, what are the Assembly and Governor Hochul doing about it? Assembly lawmakers must deliver for their constituents and prioritize the NY HEAT Act when they return to Albany.

This event will be livestreamed.
