CCNY Praises Sen. Passage of Election Commissioners Training Bill, Urges Assembly to Follow Lead This Session
ALBANY, NY (05/07/2024) (readMedia)-- Today, the New York State Senate passed Senate Bill S617, which directs the State's Board of Elections to create a mandatory training curriculum for election commissioners and other key boards of election staff. In response, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause New York, issued the following statement praising the Senate and urging the Assembly to pass the bill during session:
"Election commissioners and their staff are critical to New York's ability to administer a safe and fair voting process. We're incredibly grateful to the Senate for recognizing the need to ensure our trusted elections officials are trained under the same statewide program and are ready for any challenges they may encounter. Now, as we enter a polarized Presidential election season, the Assembly must do everything they can to get this bill done during session and help our election officials deliver a seamless electoral process for all New Yorkers."
