NEW YORK, NY (10/01/2024) (readMedia)-- TODAY, New York City Council Housing Chair Pierina Sanchez will join with Council Member Erik Bottcher, the Green Co-op Council, and the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board to drum up support for a new bill, Int. 0654, that would save affordable co-op and condo owners money as they make building upgrades to comply with Local Law 97. From Mitchell-Lamas to HDFC co-ops to affordable market-rate co-op and condo buildings, more than 166,000 families across diverse housing types will benefit from tax abatements for capital improvements while they decrease climate-warming emissions and make their homes more comfortable. The group will release a new report that shows just how many buildings would be positively impacted by the legislation, and how owners will save tens of thousands every year.
The Green Co-op Council is a new group made up of co-op shareholders advocating for policies to help green their homes, protect the environment and save money.
