ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (02/25/2014)(readMedia)-- Richard Griffiths, Vice-President and Senior Editorial Director of CNN, will serve as the keynote speaker for Flagler College's ninth Communication Week, which will take place March 10-13.
Communication Week features speakers from a variety of communication industries, including advertising, public relations, journalism and film. This year's theme is "Jump Start: YOU," with professionals sharing their knowledge with students on how to jump start their future careers by offering advice and first-hand experiences about the communication industry.
Griffiths is responsible for editorial quality control for CNN and oversees "the Row," the network's correspondent script approval and story-vetting operation. He is also responsible for oversight of investigative journalism at CNN and has also been closely involved in CNN's "Freedom Project," an effort to shed light on modern forms of slavery.
Griffiths served as Senior Executive Producer for "Terror on Tape" in the summer of 2002. This CNN investigation and analysis of Al Qaeda's videotape library was the winner of the 2002 Royal Television Society Award for International News, the 2002 Peabody Award for Excellence in Electronic Media and the 2002 Overseas Press Club David Kaplan Award for best spot news reporting from abroad.
Griffiths is scheduled to present his keynote presentation at 10 a.m. on March 10 with an ethics workshop to follow at 2 p.m.
"This year's Communication Week lineup is as strong a group of speakers as we have ever hosted," said Dr. Tracy Halcomb, chair of the Flagler College Communication Department. "I think all Flagler College students, not solely Communication majors, could definitely benefit from the information these speakers have to share. It is just a great week for faculty and students. It really energizes...or should I say 'jump starts' everyone."
Other featured speakers at Communication Week include: Brian Fuhrer, senior vice-president for National and Cross-Platform Products at Nielsen; Patrizia Cocca, knowledge management coordinator of the Global Environment Facility of The World Bank; Cindy Hill and Cara Pilson, associate teaching professors of Communication and associate directors of the Documentary Film Program at Wake Forest University; John Ludwig, CEO and founder of PUSH Advertising in Orlando; and Paul Johnson, president of Strategic Partnerships LLC and president and CEO of SP Consulting.
Communication Week also features a local filmmakers panel as well as an alumni panel comprised of Flagler College graduates who have excelled in different areas of the communication field.
