PLAINVIEW, TX (10/26/2010)(readMedia)-- Wayland Baptist University senior Caleb McLean of Colleyville was named recipient of the UPS Scholarship for 2010-11.
The UPS Scholarship is distributed through the Foundation for Independent Higher Education of Washington, D.C., which doles out more than $1.5 million to its network of state associations representing private colleges and universities across the nation. McLean is one of nearly 600 students receiving such scholarships, which are awarded based on academic achievement and financial need.
McLean is a vocal music performance major and a member of Wayland's International Choir. He is also a member of the Pioneer Track and Field Team and was part of the 2010 team that earned a national championship in outdoor track and field for the university.
"My dream is to be the first professional track athlete and opera singer… at the same time," McLean said. "While being at Wayland I've received tons of help with not only music but also track. Our coaches and professors care not only about our success academically but also personally and spiritually, which is a great atmosphere to grow in.
"I am very thankful and feel so blessed to receive this scholarship!" adds McLean. "It's amazing how God always provides for his children."
UPS Scholarships are one way the delivery company recognizes the importance of higher education and supports students attaining that goal.
"A college degree opens the door to countless opportunities," said Ken Sternad, president of the UPS Foundation. "UPS takes great pride in our long-standing partnership with FIHE and in our support of thousands of students over the years who have been able to pursue an education from our nation's private colleges."
