Watene was officially named executive director of The Lord's Kitchen in January 2010. His path to this position was one that was divinely orchestrated, beginning with his life in his homeland of Kenya to his work in the ministry, as said on The Lord's Kitchen website.
Watene attended a high school in Kenya directed by Baptist missionaries from America and was offered the chance to go to college in America by receiving an athletic scholarship to Campbellsville University where he played basketball. He graduated from CU in 1993.
He continued his education at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville to earn his master's of divinity.
Watene joined Evangel World Prayer Center in 1993, and has been involved in the church's ministry there. "His leadership ability is evident by the wealth of experience he possesses in the field of administration, including organizing and conducting men's retreats, heading the School of Leaders, and overseeing Evangel's International ministry," according to the Lord's Kitchen's website.
Watene has been married to Njoki Watene since 1993, and they have four children: Hannah, Wambri, Jeremiah and Wanjiku.
