Campbellsville University to present Transformational Church Summit Sept. 27-28

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (08/06/2012)(readMedia)-- Campbellsville University will host a "Tranformational Church Summit – A Conference for Pastors and Church Leaders" Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27-28.

John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president, said the two-day, 24-hour conference event will "challenge and equip you with tools to bring about transformation in your church."

He said the featured speakers include: Dr. Thom Rainer, president of LifeWay Christian Resources; Dr. Dan Garland, director of pastoral ministries and church consulting, LifeWay Christian Resources; the Rev. Charles Grant Jr., black and urban church partnerships, LifeWay Christian Resources; Dr. John Mark Toby, pastor of Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Somerset; the Rev. Rusty Ellison, pastor of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville; and Dr. Shane Garrison, assistant professor of educational ministries at Campbellsville University.

Breakout sessions include: Transformational Church for Predominately African-American Churches, Culture Eats Strategies: Incremental Change in a Local Church; Transformational Church for Sunday School, Transformational Church 101 and How to Use the TCAT (Transformational Church Assessment Tool).

Chowning said, "We need transformation. We need renewal. We need a fresh movement of the Holy Spirit in our congregations and among our people and we believe this conference can help."

Dr. Paul Chitwood, executive director-treasurer of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, said, the summit will "expose our pastors and church leaders to a great lineup of speakers who have decades of experience in investing themselves in revitalization ministries in the local church."

Chitwood urged all KBC churches to consider attending.

"I am looking forward to the Transformational Church Summit hosted by Campbellsville University in September as I believe it falls right in line with the Kentucky Baptist Convention's emphasis on church revitalization," he said.

Garland said, "The Transformational Church Conference at Campbellsville University will provide tools to help you know how your church members would respond to statements in the transformational church assessment tool."
