Camry Hybrid Named a Top Fuel-Efficient Car by TotalCarScore.com

Toyota's Midsize Sedan Honored for Mix of Fuel Economy and Overall Appeal

RACINE, WIS. (03/28/2012)(readMedia)-- The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid had already been determined by TotalCarScore.com to be one of the highest-rated new models on the market, but now the automotive-evaluation site has named the midsize gas-electric one of its top fuel-efficient cars. Chosen along with the 2012 Toyota Prius in the Midsize Sedans and Wagons category, the Camry Hybrid stood out after its overall ranking, or Total Car Score, was considered along with its fuel-economy numbers.

With a segment-best Total Car Score of 85.59 out of 100 possible points, the Camry Hybrid's tally was determined by taking scores from other top automotive review sources, turning each into a percentage, and creating a combined score. To make TotalCarScore.com's separate top fuel-efficient cars list, however, vehicles needed to have an above-average Total Car Score and excel when their fuel-economy rating was taken into consideration. Fuel-efficient vehicles like the 2012 Camry Hybrid, now available at Toyota dealerships with a 41-mpg combined rating, received more points for going further on less.

"The Camry has been highly acclaimed for its reliability for years now, and the Camry Hybrid only improves upon that," said Kevin Galley, Sales Manager of Racine, Wisconsin Toyota dealership Gentile Toyota. "The Camry Hybrid is stylish, comfortable and dependable like its sibling, but it also gets up to 43 miles per gallon in the city, making it ideal for dealing with rising gas prices."

The Toyota Camry Hybrid earned its leading Total Car Score after receiving a number of positive reviews for its 2012-model-year redesign. Improvements to Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive system increased the model's performance while boosting its fuel efficiency by 30 percent overall. Meanwhile, like all redesigned 2012 Camry models, the hybrid version benefits from a sleeker exterior and more space inside.

Toyota had seven of its models make TotalCarScore.com's top fuel-efficient cars list for the 2012 model year, with the Toyota Avalon, Matrix, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid and Sienna joining the Camry Hybrid and Prius. As the founding father of Toyota's expanding Prius family, the third-generation 2012 Prius earned its top rating with a longstanding reputation for quality and a drivetrain that nets a 50-mpg combined city and highway rating.

The newest and smallest member of the Prius family, the Toyota Prius c, saw debut sales numbers this month that indicate the lineup's solid reputation will continue to grow. In its first three days on sale, the Prius c moved 1,201 units, making it one of Toyota's fastest-selling vehicles. Rising gas prices and a comparatively low MSRP could make the 53-mpg Prius c a popular item in coming months.

"For local workers who commute into Milwaukee during the week, the Prius c is the perfect daily-driver," added Galley. "Considering current gas prices, the fact that the Prius c has sold so well in its first few weeks doesn't surprise us at all. We're glad that area drivers will be able to save so much money now that it's finally here, both during their purchase and at the gas pump."
