Trail Closed to Public Effective September 3rd Due to Embankment Repairs

ALBANY, NY (09/01/2009)(readMedia)--

The New York State Canal Corporation has announced the temporary closure of a 1.5 mile section of Canalway Trail from Redman Road to the Brockport-Main Street Lift Bridge in the Village of Brockport, Monroe County, beginning Thursday, September 3, 2009, for embankment repairs. The embankment repairs, being conducted by Canal Corporation forces, are expected to last approximately one week.

During this time, detour signs will be in place to alert the public of the temporary closure and to direct the public to utilize Redman Road, West Avenue, and Main Street (State Route 19).

During the repairs, Canal Corporation forces will place sheet piling in the embankment to help prevent seepage from the Canal into the surrounding area. Boat traffic will not be affected by the necessary repairs.

The Canal Corporation appreciates the public's patience while the repairs are being made. The Canal Corporation will advise when the repairs are complete and the Canalway Trail reopens.
