Canal Corporation, Town of Hastings Announce New Floating Docks Available for Public Use in Brewerton

ALBANY, NY (06/18/2009)(readMedia)-- The New York State Canal Corporation and the Town of Hastings today announced that the new floating docks will be available for use beginning Friday, June 19, 2009, nearly one full week ahead of schedule.

Carmella R. Mantello, Director of the New York State Canal Corporation, said, "Canal Corporation employees have worked diligently to ensure that the new docking in Brewerton was installed in a timely fashion and I would like to commend them for their efforts. Residents and visitors to Brewerton will be able to enjoy the new docking in time for the height of the navigation season. I want to thank the public for their patience throughout the past several weeks."

Supervisor James Weatherup, Town of Hastings, said, "The Town of Hastings is very pleased that the Canal Corporation was able to work quickly to construct and install the new docking in Brewerton. With one of our biggest weekends coming up, the Fourth of July, we will surely take advantage of the new floating docks and line them with boaters to celebrate and enjoy the fireworks display."

The Canal Corporation closed the concrete Brewerton Pier to the public due to structural deficiencies on May 8. The pier will remain closed indefinitely until it can be replaced.
