Canalway Improvements Planned Between Pittsford to Fairport
Public Meeting May 24 in Pittsford
Improvements to an eight-mile stretch of the Erie Canalway Trail between Pittsford and Fairport will be the topic of a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Pittsford Town Hall, the New York State Canal Corporation announced today.
The project is scheduled to begin in February 2013 and last about one year.
To minimize inconvenience to the public, only short segments of the trail will be closed at one time. Work will be coordinated around planned community events along the trail.
The project extends eight miles, from Monroe Street in the Town of Pittsford to Cobb's Lane in the Village of Fairport.
The upgrades of the popular trail include rehabilitation of the existing stone dust and asphalt surfaces, safety improvements and new signs.
This $2.3 million trail improvement is funded under the Rebuild and Renew New York Transportation Bond that was approved by the voters in 2005.
The Erie Canalway Trail extends 100 miles between Buffalo in Erie County and Newark in Wayne County. More than three-quarters of the 365-mile Erie Canalway Trail from Buffalo to Albany is now completed.
