Canning King Crowned at the State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/12/2017) (readMedia)-- Rod Zeitler of Iowa City won first place and a $100 gift card in the Canning with Mrs. Wages competition, judged on August 8, prior to the start of the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Denise Andreas of Ankeny won second place and a $75 gift card. Michelle Westphal of Waterloo claimed third place and a $25 gift card.

Entrants were judged on appearance and taste.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Due to the large number of classes, Food Department judging begins prior to the Fair in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
