HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/28/2011)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 21, Hampden-Sydney College junior Christian Adam Pritchett received the Rhetoric Speech Award, presented by Dr. Lizabeth A. Rand, Elliott Associate Professor of Rhetoric. Cap's winning speech was entitled, "The Responsibility of Civil Discourse." The Speech Contest is funded by the John Augustus Moore Oral Rhetoric Fund. The fund was presented to the College in 1988 by Elizabeth and Mary Moore in honor of their nephew, John Augustus Moore, Class of 1978. John's aunts describe their nephew as an energetic, highly motivated, and well-read student, a man who embodied H-SC's vision of the good man and good citizen. They wished to establish a fund that would enhance oral rhetoric at Hampden-Sydney College.
A Venable Scholar, Cap serves as Vice President of the Rugby Club and as Secretary of the social fraternity Theta Chi. A history major, Cap graduated from Community High School and is the son of Gretchen Notermann of Fincastle.
