ALBANY, NY (11/15/2007)(readMedia)-- John G. Keegan and Marie Major of Albany and Altamont have been appointed to serve on the Family Assistance Commission (FAC) organized by the New York State Funeral Directors Association (NYSFDA) to respond to disasters occurring in New York State. As FAC members, Wilson and Major will interview survivors and process paperwork to assist in identifying and facilitating the release of remains to the next of kin.
They were chosen to serve on this commission due to their extensive experience as funeral directors in New York State.
Keegan of the Magin and Keegan Funeral Home in Albany has been a licensed funeral director for 17 years. He has also been employed by the Albany County Coroners Office for the past 15 years, and was recently elected Albany County Coroner for a term to begin on January 1, 2008.
Marie Major of Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont, has been a licensed funeral director for nine years and was formerly a certified nursing assistant. She has degrees from Maria College in Bereavement and Gerontology.
FAC will operate under the auspices of the New York State Tribute Foundation, which is the charitable arm of NYSFDA. The NYS Tribute Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting education, outreach and research programs that advance the public's understanding of end-of-life issues.
