Carthage College students present at National Convention of Alpha Mu Gamma

Two Carthage College students, Seliz Arizmendi and Ayla Lotegeluaki, presented at the National Convention of Alpha Mu Gamma in March at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Both students, who are juniors at Carthage, had the opportunity to present on topics related to their experiences while studying a foreign language.

Seliz's presentation, "Mexican Culture Through Musical Performance," focused on her life growing up in a bilingual household while performing in her family's musical group.

Ayla's presentation, "The Milwaukee German Immersion School," covered her time attending a German language grade school, and all the linguistic and cultural experiences she enjoyed during those years.

These students represent Carthage's Chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma, which is the National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society. Professor of Modern Languages Matt Borden accompanied the students.

Prof. Borden, who serves as chair for the college's modern languages department, also gave a presentation, "Short-Term Study Abroad: Cultural Studies in Argentina," describing Carthage's strong tradition of offering study tours, while also focusing on his 2027 J-Term class.
