ROMEOVILLE, IL (06/06/2013)(readMedia)-- Cassandra K. Myers of Huntley, Ill., presented the Student Lasallian Address during Lewis University's May 2013 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony held at the Romeoville Main Campus.
For each Commencement, one graduating senior is chosen to deliver the address, a speech that reflects the principles that guide the university's Mission as they relate to the speaker's personal life, and that recognizes the value of diversity, social justice, and service to the poor.
Myers graduated with bachelor degrees in chemistry and criminal/social justice. Aside from her studies, Meyers was a captain of the Lewis University Mock Trial Team and served on President's Student Advisory Council, Delta Epsilon Sigma Catholic Honors Society, American Chemical Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and as founding member of Lewis Immigration Reform Board. Myers credits Lewis University for letting her be a part of a community that she feels so deeply connected to as well as limitless opportunities. "Lewis has inspired me to serve the public and has taught me so much about social justice. Most importantly, I know that Lewis has instilled in me the Lasallian values that I will develop and hone in my future career," Myers explained.
Myers will be attending law school at Northwestern University. "This decision was largely based on the opportunity to work in the Center on Wrongful Convictions. I feel impassioned about helping those who have been wrongfully convicted, and purposely worked towards a chemistry degree so that I'd have the integral knowledge to best help this oppressed group." Myers explained that it was the values heralded at Lewis University that has given her the education and inspiration to succeed in her future career.
