Casting Call for "Dead Man Walking" at Cazenovia College
Auditions on the college campus Sept. 8 & 9
CAZENOVIA, NY (09/07/2010)(readMedia)-- Cazenovia College's fall theatre production is "Dead Man Walking," by Tim Robbins, a play adapted from the movie based on the book by Sr. Helen Prejean, who is speaking in Cazenovia in September. Auditions will be on the College campus, Wednesday, Sept. 8 and Thursday, Sept. 9.
The first audition is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m., in McDonald Lecture Hall, Eckel Hall, on Lincklaen St. in Cazenovia.
The second audition is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 9, at 7 p.m., in the Catherine Cummings Theatre, 16 Lincklaen St. in Cazenovia.
Auditioners should prepare a short contemporary monologue or a short story to be told about a dramatic experience during childhood. Direct questions to Lowenstein at: dllowenstein@cazenovia.edu. Performance dates are Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoon – November 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21.
Callbacks are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 10 in McDonald Lecture Hall.
Directions: from Albany St. (Route 20), turn onto LIncklaen Sreet at the light next to the Lincklaen House. The Catherine Cummings Theatre is on the right, next door to the Lincklaen House. Eckel Hall is on the left side of the street in the next block.
Director David Lowenstein, Cazenovia College's artist in residence, said, "The play tells the story of Sister Prejean's experiences and awakening passion to advocate against the death penalty as she meets with, and counsels a convicted murderer awaiting execution. Mounting this production is an extraordinary opportunity to connect Sister Prejean's visit and lecture to the curricular and artistic endeavors of the college and community."
Casting: Sister Helen Prejean – age range: early twenties - late thirties, strong, determined, adventurous, nun with a sense of humor, from Louisiana. Mathew Poncelet, the murderer – age range: early- to mid-twenties; threatening, manipulative, with a strong sense of bravado that hides the real fear of his situation - also from Louisiana. A company of 8 -10 actors: male and female, various ages to play the murder victims, their parents, lawyers, nuns, and other minor characters.
