Catch a Free Show at SUNY Delhi This Summer

DELHI, NY (07/13/2017) (readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi is proud to once again present a series of performances by the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) School of Theatre throughout July and August. The shows will be free and open to the public.

NYSSA is open to students in grades 8 through 12 from all across New York who come to SUNY Delhi for several weeks each summer to immerse themselves in the rigors and thrills of theater life.

NYSSSA will perform the following four plays in the Okun Theatre in the Farrell Student and Community Center:

Seeger

Sunday, July 16 at 7 p.m.

Seeger, a solo show written and performed by Randy Noojin, presents a recreation sing-along with America's beloved folksinger/activist Pete Seeger at a benefit for U.S.-Cuban normalization. The folksinger uses his greatest songs to tell tales of his adventures with McCarthy-era witch-hunters, the Blacklist, the Peekskill riots, and a sailboat that helped clean up the Hudson.

She Plays

Tuesday, July 18 at 7 p.m.

This play by Cynthia L. Cooper tells the riveting stories of six women from sports history who break barriers and challenge stereotypes. Their struggles and successes, shared by two performers, reveal the inner strength that inspires people to overcome obstacles on any field of endeavor.

Ophelia

Sunday, July 23 at 3 p.m.

Shakespeare's Ophelia emerges from the sidelines of a certain Danish prince's play and demands her own voice in a world dominated by men. Ophelia is an hour-long solo performance that investigates Hamlet's young woman through a feminist lens.

Student Performances

Thursday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.

NYSSSA student actors will take the stage to display the skills they have learned during their four weeks in the School of Theatre.
