Background:

It's spring break – offering the perfect opportunity to explore ways to shape your future. All of Genesee Community College's campus centers are hosting a "Catch the Wave" educational opportunity providing enrollment and registration services to community members on March 30 and 31, and April 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Among the many services new and returning students can access are: academic advisement, assistance with completing applications, course registration and other technical needs, as well as scheduling personal appointments to review all financial aid opportunities. Potential students can also take the placement test and register for summer and fall courses if they bring official transcripts from their high school. The staff at the campus centers in Livingston County (Dansville and Lima), Orleans County (Albion and Medina), and Wyoming County (Arcade and Warsaw) will be ready to assist students of all ages, all career interests and all walks of life.

Scholarship opportunities are among the dynamic opportunities for local residents to explore. The Genesee Promise Plus program offering summer scholarships for up to two courses for GLOW-area high school graduates, juniors, and G.E.D. recipients, as well as adults who have never attended college before are among the important topics to explore. New students who would like to fill out their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) are encouraged to bring their most recent tax return and photo ID, and any record of high school graduation or GED.

"It's been a long winter, and people are thinking ahead. We want to be sure that every new or returning student no matter what age has the opportunity for college enrollment," Patty Chaya, associate dean of the Lima and Warsaw Campus Centers. "Our doors are open and we hope anyone who has even remotely considered college to stop in and 'Catch the Wave' toward a career they love."
