Chad Coumbes of Troy is Recipient of SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

TROY, NY (04/05/2012)(readMedia)-- Chad Coumbes of Troy was recently named as a recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. He was honored along with other recipients from across the State University system on April 4 at a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.

The president of the college's Student Senate and a student in the Fine Arts program, Coumbes is a President's List honor student and a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students at two-year colleges. He also was named to the New York State All-USA Academic Team, which is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa.

Coumbes has been extremely active on campus during his two years at the college. He has been a member of the men's cross country team, freshman class president, and a member of the Faculty Student Association board. He has been involved in the Running Club and as a student volunteer in the Fine Arts studio. Coumbes is currently a representative on the SUNY Community Colleges organization, which seeks to link together students in the SUNY system's 30 community colleges. He was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 2012. He will graduate in May with a Fine Arts A.S. degree.

The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence was created 16 years ago to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 14,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 65,000 alumni.
