Chalmer Nash Patterson Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund Established

ABILENE, TX (09/30/2011)(readMedia)-- Evangeline (Evan) Cotten established the Chalmer Nash Patterson Endowed Memorial Scholarship in memory of her father Chalmer Nash Patterson because of his dedication to teaching science from a Christian perspective. Cotten is a 1949 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University from Fort Davis, Texas.

Cotton emphasizes that her father always had a calling to teach at Christian institutions. "My father stated many times that he felt his own calling was as strong as that of any minister of the Gospel.  Christian education was his ministry," says Cotten.

Chalmer N. Patterson was an associate professor of physics at Bradley University. He received his A.B. and A.M. degrees at the University of Oregon.

Patterson taught at Albany, Sterling, and Hastings colleges and worked in administration and text writing for an Air Force technical school.  He also taught four years at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

He authored many technical manuals and articles, and was named in American Men of Science, and Who's Who in the Midwest.  He was a member of Pi Gamma Mu, Pi Mu Epsilon, the American Association of Physics Teachers, and the American Physical Society. He was teaching at the University of Tulsa when he retired.
