Champlain College Senior Leaves for Miss USA Pageant

BURLINGTON, VT (04/03/2009)(readMedia)-- Champlain College senior Brooke Werner, 22, heads to Las Vegas today to begin preparing for the Miss USA contest on April 19.
Werner, a native of Granville, Vt., is a public relations major at Champlain College and will graduate in May. Aside from studying and attending classes, Brooke is an active member of Champlain's chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and also helps to coordinate on-campus events with the student-run group, CHAMP. She is employed at Ecco Clothing in downtown Burlington.
"My hopes, of course, are to be crowned Miss USA and to go onto Miss Universe. But if I'm not crowned, my hopes are just to represent Vermont in the best way possible and make the community proud," she said.
Throughout her year as Miss Vermont 2009, Werner will work closely with the official cause of Miss USA, which includes breast and ovarian cancer, research and legislation, as well as raising awareness for the issue of homelessness in Vermont. The nationally televised Miss USA pageant airs Sunday, April 19 on NBC.
