Chaw Akari San of Yangon, Myanmar, was recognized with multiple awards during Hartwick College's Honors Convocation on May 3.
San was presented with the Detweiler Global Fund Award, which is given to an international student who has demonstrated their educational commitment through academic achievement and who also has financial need to remain at and graduate from Hartwick. The award was established by Hartwick President Emeritus Richard A. Detweiler and his wife, Carol.
San also received the Otto Steinbach Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry. Established in memory of Chemistry Professor Otto Steinbach by his wife, Grace Steinbach, Hartwick Class of 1938, and former student Elizabeth Lamphere, Class of 1938, the scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior chemistry or biochemistry major who has demonstrated high academic achievement.
Additionally, San was given the Undergraduate Award for Achievement in Organic Chemistry, which is presented to a chemistry major with a B+ or higher GPA and outstanding performance in a two-semester organic chemistry sequence.
