Chefs Master Mystery Sack Ingredients in Iowa State Fair Cooking Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/29/2023) (readMedia)-- Maggie Stalzer of Haverhill won first place and $300 in the Iowa State Fair Mystery Sack – Adult competition judged Sunday, August 20, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Holly Houg of Urbandale won second place and $150. Lori Hilgerson of West Des Moines received third place and $75. Meredith Hodges of Des Moines earned honorable mention.

Entries were judged on taste and best use of products.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
