Chevy's All-New 2014 Silverado Set for December Debut in Detroit

Automaker Teases Next-Generation Full-Size Pickup with Sneak Peek of Headlights

HAVERHILL, MASS. (10/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Pickup truck manufacturers must continually update their models to stay ahead of competitors, and Chevy is hoping to once again raise the bar with the new generation of its Silverado. The 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 will be revealed at a special December event in the Detroit area before making its public debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show the following month. While many details are still under wraps, Chevrolet recently teased its new Silverado with a photo of the truck's new projector-beam headlights, which are surrounded by chrome accents that hint at a bolder overall design.

The Silverado started out as the top trim for the Chevrolet C/K pickup truck for the 1975 model year, but it replaced the C/K nameplate altogether in the 1999 model year. Since then, the Chevy Silverado 1500 has become one of the most popular and recognizable vehicles on the market. Last year, the truck was the second-best-selling vehicle in the United States, and even with a new model in the works, the Silverado held that number-two spot last month, moving 36,425 units in September. Chevy will try to build upon those numbers when the 2014 model goes into production next year.

"We expect the newest generation of the Chevy Silverado to be even more capable and fuel efficient, all without losing the iconic look that drivers instantly recognize," said Bill DeLuca III, president of Bill DeLuca Chevrolet Buick GMC, a Massachusetts Chevy dealership. "Fans who love the versatility of the truck will definitely find a lot to admire in January, when they can see the new model up close and personal in Detroit."

January will also bring the unveiling of the seventh-generation 2014 Chevy Corvette in Detroit, and some details about the latest version of the sports car have already been revealed. As suspected by many, the base 2014 model will get Chevy's new small-block 6.2-liter V8 engine, making it the fastest and most powerful standard Corvette ever. Official numbers won't be finalized until early next year, but Chevy says the new Corvette will churn out 450 horsepower and accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds.

Thanks to its new powertrain and lighter body, the next-generation Corvette will also be the most fuel-efficient version yet, with mileage expected to handily surpass the 26-mpg-highway rating of the 2013 model. Improved fuel economy will come in part from the addition of direct-injection technology, which ensures a more complete burn of the fuel. Meanwhile, Chevy's Active Fuel Management system will be applied to the Corvette for the first time, saving gas by turning off half the engine's cylinders during light-load driving.

The modern touches of the 2014 Chevy Corvette are reflected in its new Crossed Flags emblem, which was revealed earlier this month. While the emblem has graced the Corvette since the vehicle's 1953 debut, its design has evolved over the years. The latest iteration of the Crossed Flags logo is more angular and swept-back, symbolizing the new Corvette's speed and sleeker design lines.

"People are going to be talking about this redesign for a long time to come, because the 2014 Corvette has taken so many big leaps forward in so many categories," added DeLuca. "By making the Corvette simultaneously more powerful and efficient than ever, Chevy is saying that driving enthusiasts really can have it all."
