LATHAM, NY (08/05/2026) (readMedia)-- Chief Master Sgt. Lynette Tangredi, a Mechanicville resident, will become the top enlisted leader in the New York Air National Guard during an August 6 ceremony at New York National Guard headquarters.

She replaces Command Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Hewson, after 40 years of service in the Air Force and Air National Guard.

WHO: Command Chief Master Sgt. Lynette Tangredi, the incoming senior enlisted leader for the New York Air National Guard; Command Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Hewson, the outgoing senior enlisted leader; Major General Gary Charlton II, the commander of the New York Air National Guard.

WHAT: A ceremony during which Command Chief Master Sgt. Lynette Tangredi will assume the duties of senior enlisted advisor for the 5,098-member New York Air National Guard.

Tangredi has served in the Air Force and the Air National Guard since 1997.

She will serve as the advisor to Major General Gary Charleton II, the commander of the New York Air National Guard, on all matter pertaining the health, welfare, morale, training, and professional development of the New York Air National Guard's 4,876 enlisted Airmen.

BACKGROUND:

Command Chief Master Sgt. Lynette Tangredi

Command Chief Master Sgt. Lynette Tangredi enlisted in the Air Force in August 1997 and trained as a computer systems operator. She was initially assigned to the 83rd Communications Squadron at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

She made the transition to the Air National Guard in 2003, joining the 152nd Airlift Wing in Reno Nevada. In June 2004, she joined the 109th Airlift Wing at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia. She was initially assigned as a communications operator in the 109th Communications Flight.

Tangredi served in a number of positions of increasing responsibility in the 109th Airlift Wing. These include serving as head of cyber security for the 109th Communications Flight, first sergeant of the 109th Security Forces Squadron, and Superintendent of the 109th Comptroller Flight.

She also served as civil operations program manager and criminal analyst for the New York National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.

She deployed to Greenland and Antarctica in support of the 109th Airlift Wing's unique polar airlift capabilities.

In 2021, Tangredi deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, as superintendent for the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing's comptroller squadron.

Tangredi served as the senior enlisted leader for the 105th Airlift Wing's Force Support Squadron from 2023 to 2025. At the same time, she served in New York Air National Guard headquarters managing the Active Guard and Reserve personnel program.

Her most recent job was serving as senior enlisted leader in New York Air National Guard headquarters and serving as director of military personnel for the New York Air Guard.

Tangredi holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior College, an Associated of Applied Science in Human Resources from the Community College of the Air Force, and a Master of Sceience in Management from Excelsior College.

She is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, Rhode Island, and the Reserve Component National Security Course in Washington, D.C. as well as a number of other military schools.

Tangredi's awards include multiple awards of the Air and Space Achievement and Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Medal.

The New York Air National Guard

With five flying wings and the Eastern Air Defense Sector, New York boasts the largest Air National Guard in the country.

The 107th and 174th Attack Wings operate the MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft. These wings routinely conduct combat air patrol and surveillance missions in support of deployed U.S. and allied military.

The 107th Attack Wing is based at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, while the 174th is at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base in Syracuse.

The109th Airlift Wing flies the largest ski-equipped aircraft in the world-the LC-130-- from Stratton Air National Guard Base in Schenectady. The wing regularly conducts resupply for science stations in Greenland and Antarctica and conducts polar missions in support of Air Mobility Command.

The 105th Airlift Wing flies strategic airlift missions world-wide with the C-17 Globemaster III, from Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh.

The 106th Rescue Wing at Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach is equipped for land and water rescues and missions behind enemy lines. The wing flies the CH-130J Combat King search and rescue aircraft and the HH-60G Jolly Green II search and rescue helicopters.

The Eastern Air Defense Sector, located in Rome, is responsible for the air defense of the United States east of the Mississippi River. The missions of the Eastern Air Defense Sector are carried out by the 224th Air Defense Group.

Smaller New York Air National Guard units conduct space operations missions, air war planning, signal tower construction, and orchestrate joint ground attack missions.
