Governor Proclaims May 2-8, 2010 as Children's Mental Health Awareness Week

ALBANY, NY (04/30/2010)(readMedia)-- A gathering of young people, families, service providers, county mental health leaders, advocates and others will join OMH, Families Together in New York State and YOUTH POWER! to celebrate the positive impact that mental health programs have on children, youth and their families and loved ones; and to applaud the accomplishments of the children's mental health community in New York State.

WHAT:

• Congressman Paul Tonko will speak on the impact of health care reform on children’s mental health;

• NYS Deputy Secretary Kristin Proud will present a proclamation from Governor Paterson;

• OMH Commissioner Mike Hogan and Paige Pierce, Executive Director, Families Together in New York State, will each present on positive children’s mental health from birth through adolescence;

• Representatives of five children’s mental health programs will share brief inspirational stories that illustrate how they have uniquely influenced the lives of your people and their families;

• An interactive poster session will represent outstanding children’s mental health programs that have made a difference in the lives of children and their loved ones.
