SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Christine Galinski of Somers, CT, was recently named a recipient of the Royal Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Galinski was one of 15 outstanding students to receive the award during the University's Homecoming Weekend.
Galinski is currently in her second year of working towards a Doctor in Pharmacy degree. While at Western New England University, Galinski has worked with the Residence Hall Association. She also became involved as a Peer Advisor and is currently a member of the Steering Committee. Galinksi is the co-founder of and vice president of the Western New England University Chapter of American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists. Within the organization, she was named the winner of the Pharmacy Counseling Competition which gave her the opportunity to attend a National Professional Pharmacy meeting in New Orleans where she served as Chapter Delegate. Over the summer, she traveled to Florida to represent the University at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy annual meeting where she presented a science poster on her research. This year, Galinksi became one of two student members of the College of Pharmacy Student Faculty Ethics Committee and vice president of the Pharmacy Student Governance Association.
