ALBANY, NY (12/25/2010)(readMedia)-- "With the challenges of 2010 behind us, I join millions of New York State residents in celebrating this Christmas with a renewed feeling of optimism for what lies ahead for our State-and our nation-in 2011.
"On Christmas Day we join with our friends and neighbors and remember that it is our charity for those less fortunate and our willingness to make heroic sacrifices that truly define us. During this time of hardship, when so many families are forced to make do with less, I urge all New Yorkers to remember those amongst us for whom Christmas will not arrive with the usual trappings and cheer.
"Rather than dwell on disappointment over material matters, we should gather in the true spirit of the season-appreciating our loved ones and creating memories to outlast any store-bought items. We must remember those brave men and women who are unable to spend this festive season with their loved ones, as they are overseas defending our country, our values, and our way of life from forces who seek to destroy all that we cherish.
"It is in these many acts of kindness and devotion that the people of New York show the world – and one another – who we are and what the spirit of Christmas truly means. It is our enduring spirit and charity to one another that makes me so optimistic about the future of our great State.
"On behalf of Michelle and the entire Paterson family I would like to wish all New Yorkers a very merry and peaceful Christmas."
