Christopher Turpin Receives Final Convocation Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College senior Christopher James Turpin received the James Madison Award, presented by Dr. Warner R. Winborne '88, Associate Professor of Government & Foreign Affairs. The James Madison Award is given to a political science major for outstanding scholastic achievement.

A Madison Scholar, Christopher serves as President of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and writes for the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger. He is a member of the Union-Philanthropic Literary Society, the Hampden-Sydney Men's Chorus, the President's Men, the Garnet & Grey Society (admissions tour guide), and the honor societies Phi Beta Kappa (academics), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), Pi Sigma Alpha (political science), and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Christopher completed an internship with the U.S. Department of State last summer and has studied abroad at the Goethe Institute in Munich and at Eberhard-Karls Universit in Tubingen. A German and foreign affairs major, Christopher graduated from Ocean Lakes High School and is the son of Patricia Munley of Virginia Beach.
