Cinnamon Rolls Delight at the Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/29/2017) (readMedia)-- Marianne Carlson of Jefferson won First Place Overall as well as a $200 cash award and a stand mixer in The Cinnamon Roll Contest judged August 12 at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Amy Fuson of Indianola claimed Second Place Overall and $100. Sharon Gates of Des Moines won Third Place Overall and $50.

All entrants were required to present five rolls with a complete recipe and a story behind the cinnamon rolls. Entries were judges on taste, texture, appearance and story.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
